My Diary part fourty one Good Things Happen To Good People

I checked with two different places and got slightly different answers.
Mobility Plus – says a 30" wide x 12 ft ramp would be about 5 ft in diameter rolled up and weigh about 70 lb – cost is US$1495. They recommend that the slope be no more than 12 degrees incline. Anything steeper can be dangerous. I also described the steps to the guy and he said that if we did two sets of ramps (one for each set of steps), the landing area should be accommodate the wheelchair plus 2 feet (one foot for the part of the ramp that will sit on the landing – and there will be one foot for the top ramp on the landing area and another foot for the bottom ramp starting from that landing area). Splitting it in two may result in a less steep incline, which will be safer (and having two smaller ramps rather than one big ramp will be easier to carry/move).
Adaptive Driving Access – says that same ramp is about 3 ft in diameter rolled up, 40 lb and is $1100
Sounds like Mobility Plus’ description (and price) is closer to what you were quoted. The other place is cheaper (and I confirmed the dimensions etc) but I wonder if the price difference is worth the hassle factor. It seems quite large when rolled up and not really not portable; even as check-in luggage.
I will try calling you tonight to talk to you about this (I guess you will be in your office). I can only call after 9 pm my time (which will be after 10 am your time).

thanks for discussing today at short notice. Ah Keat also came by today and agreed that it looked sturdy enough. As for claims that aircraft parts being used, he advised not to put too much weight on that. In any case, we should check more what is meant by 10 year warranty - that seems like a pretty long time to guarantee this product.
A 12 feet one should weigh about 30-35 kg. Seems quite heavy to maneuver everyday. Maybe I can help lay this out every day when there are physio therapy sessions and help roll it up at end of working day when I am back.
The sustainable weight on this 12 feet one is about 650 ibs or 295 kg - adequate strength assuming 50 kg (mum) + 15 kg (wheelchair) + Mala (45 kg) + Dad (50 kg) = 160 kg total. Dad should be at side providing support from stable grd rather than on ramp as well.
I have returned the sample ramp (4 feet length one that can be used from step no 2 only) to Greca Traing last evening (Apr 27 evening) here are some pics for your reference. The pictures are of a sample from Greca Trading (the local singapore trading company) of a 4ft long one x 30 inches. I told him that we needed to have internal family discussions before I revert. His current quote to me is S$1,900 or US$1,407 all in costs

I am will be calling to get a phsyiotherap[ist at Ling Kwang Home assess her on April 30 - same days as the mum's medical appt with TTSH's neuro doctor. Thereafter, we can start on physio again. Dad obtained hsi in principle 5 year social visit pass and I need to submit his medical report (need to do one here - X-ray + HIV test) by mid June and thenw e should be A-Ok for dad to stay here long term (5 years opr passport expiry whichever comes first)
Mum does have ups and down moments. She was a bit depressed today; not wanting to talk to aunty Mala and feeling miserable about "burdening us", I heard from Candice. I also have to watch Dad so that he does not spiral down too. Candice will bring him whenever possible to pick me up at Changi at end of business day together with Nicole as there is a large lake here at work that they can feed fish with bread. IT would be good to get him out of the house like this occasionally.
Just this last Sunday, April 20, we had a dinner at Jumbo restaurant to celebrate Candice's mum's B-day. Dad was with me and rest of Candice' family. I could see Dad happily eating some crab! Something that mum would not have allowed him if mum was here!

Seh Hui passed his recent oral and written test for end of stage 1 with some 65% achievement!! It is quiet an achievement considering that it was very difficult and in a course that e has never taken before. Congratulations to him!

I’m just checking in to see how things are. I did try calling the phone at your house at around 9:30 pm your time (on Tues night), See Hong, but got a voice mail greeting. I didn’t leave a message. How are things going? Is everyone falling into a routine now? Is mom doing any out-patient therapy?
Seh Hui, how are things going with you? Haven’t heard from you in awhile – hope you are doing fine.
The kids had Monday (yesterday) off, so we took advantage of the long weekend and went to a cabin on Rio Frio, (a river) for a couple of nights. It was a 4 ½ hour drive, but it was nice for everyone to get away. The river is crystal clear and really cold! Unfortunately, Jade had homework to do so she had to bring it with her. Then she forgot a sheet (quite unlike her as she is usually quite organized), so we had to leave a little earlier for her to get her work finished. The place was remote enough where none of us could get cell phone reception, so no emails or phone calls – which was very nice.
